Rap lyrics, music videos, video games, advertisements and peer influences portraying women as nothing more than sexual toys whose only purpose is to gratify men lead young girls to take terrifying health risks in order to conform. Eating disorders come about as glorified images of super skinny, breast-implanted woman are used to promote everything from make-up, to fast food, to clothing.
Sexual promiscuity becomes the norm when teenagers hear sexually explicit lyrics that cheapen women to mere objects to be used and disposed of.
The resulting statistics on teen pregnancies, abortions, sexually transmitted diseases, mental illness, eating disorders, teen suicide and drug abuse are staggering.
The mainstream media’s solution? The HPV vaccine, female condoms, and public service announcements.
Rather than cracking down on those peddling the smut and filth to impressionable children; media corporations and “artists” continue to bring in enormous profits from the objectification of women, sexualization of young girls and promotion of violence against women.
